I have some seriously long rides planned for this week. My route will cover a mix of steep city inclines, breezy coastal paths, and miles of suburban pavement. To tackle this upcoming adventure, I will be relying on my newly delivered Aventon Level 4 ADV commuter ebike. Unboxing
I won’t bore you with too much information about the unboxing, but it was a relatively painless experience. The bike arrived in a typical large box, well packed to ensure it reached its final destination. Make note of the two white tabs at the bottom of the box. These are located on both sides, and when removed, the entire box top lifts directly off, revealing a mostly assembled bike.
You will have to affix the handlebars, attach the front tire, install the light, and fenders, but this is par for the course when working with these bikes.
I hand it to any bike company that provides a video to make the experience flow a little smoother. Aventon ensures this is the case here, and with a little time, it will look like this.

The Level 4 ADV is one of Aventon’s few Class 3 e-bikes, meaning it can reach speeds of up to 28 miles per hour with pedal assist. This makes it perfect for those with longer commutes or who want to tackle more challenging terrain. I am a bit handcuffed by the speed limit on our nearby path, which is 15 mph, but it is nice to know the speed is available when needed. Because of the mid-drive design, the bike encourages active pedaling. You can purchase and install a throttle separately to convert it to a Class 2 e-bike, though the throttle response on a mid-drive feels slightly different from that on a hub-drive model. I must say, more pedaling equals more exercise, which I probably need.

Aventon equipped this model with a high-capacity 36V, 20Ah, 800Wh removable lithium-ion battery. Built with premium Samsung 21700 58E cells, this power source delivers an incredible range of up to 110 miles on a single charge. You can comfortably commute to work all week or embark on massive weekend rides without constantly searching for a power outlet.
The bike also utilizes Aventon’s ACU technology to keep you securely connected.
It features 4G and GPS real-time tracking. You can monitor your bike’s location, receive remote notifications, and enable unusual activity detection. A complimentary 4G connection subscription is included for the first year, adding a robust layer of smart security to protect your investment.
Design and Durability: Built for the Urban Explorer
True commuter bikes need to handle rough city infrastructure and unpredictable weather. Aventon built the Level 4 ADV around a sturdy 6061 Aluminum frame that balances durability with manageable weight, which comes in at roughly 61lbs.
To absorb the shocks of patched asphalt and bumpy bike paths, the bike features a 100mm-travel suspension fork and an Aventon suspension seatpost. These components work together with the Kenda K1052 27.5x2.2" tires to smooth out your ride, preventing fatigue during long journeys. I can attest that the ride is very solid and very smooth. This includes crossing paved paths and onto loose gravel or common dirt roads. I was pleased with this bike's performance compared to some of my “Fat Tire” bike options.
Reliable stopping power is handled by Tektro HD-M3120 2-Piston hydraulic disc brakes featuring 180mm rotors. Hydraulic brakes offer superior control and confidence in heavy traffic, even when the roads are wet. To top it off, the bike comes fully equipped for daily utility with an integrated rear rack, full-coverage fenders (including fender extenders), and integrated front and rear brake lights with turn signals.
